Classic British Sunday Roast

Sunday roast is a traditional British meal typically served on Sundays, consisting of roasted meat, potatoes, vegetables (typically carrots, peas, and broccoli), and gravy. The roasted meat can be beef, pork, chicken, lamb or any other meat that is traditionally roasted.

It is usually served with a Yorkshire pudding and accompanied by a range of condiments, such as mustard, horseradish, and mint sauce. The meal is often enjoyed with family and friends and is considered one of the most important meals in the British culinary tradition. In recent years, a vegetarian version of the Sunday roast (usually featuring a nut roast or roasted vegetables) has become increasingly popular.

Ingredients:

- 1 (4-pound) beef roast

- 1 tablespoon olive oil

- 1 teaspoon kosher salt

- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

- 2 cups beef broth

- 2 cups water

- 4 carrots, peeled and cut into chunks

- 4 potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks

- 1 onion, chopped

- 2 cloves garlic, minced

- 2 tablespoons flour

- 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).

2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Rub the beef roast with salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Place the roast in the skillet and sear it on all sides until browned.

3. In a roasting pan, mix together the beef broth and water. Add the carrots, potatoes, and onion to the roasting pan.

4. Place the seared beef roast on top of the vegetables in the roasting pan. Cover the roasting pan with foil.

5. Bake the roast in the oven for 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until the beef is cooked to your desired level of doneness.

6. When the roast is done, remove it from the roasting pan and place it on a platter to rest.

7. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook it until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the flour and whisk it until smooth.

8. Pour the drippings from the roasting pan into the saucepan with the butter and flour. Whisk the mixture constantly until it thickens into a gravy.

9. Serve the roast with the vegetables and gravy on the side. Enjoy!
